An Irish polka in 2/4 time
This tune has two beats to each bar with the crotchet beats frequently divided into two quavers or four semiquavers (beamed together in the notation). Learn each 2 bar phrase in turn taking care to play the slurs as written. When playing several fast notes in a single bow stroke the fingers need to move strictly in time and in the correct rhythm so that the notes do not tumble over each other in an irregular muddle!
In the video clip notice that the tune is played in the upper part of the bow with flowing bow arm movements including arcs, circles, and a figure eight pattern. To help with this technique practise bowing pattern 6.
